A true Japanese izakaya is more like a casual pub but over time izakayas have evolved to represent fun casual dining. A loose translation of ShuRaku would be ?enjoyment of sake?. At ShuRaku we have elevated the casual style and like to call our style sushi-izakaya; casual, energetic and fun from Lunch straight through to Late Night Dining . . . Vancouver?s only Sake Bar and Japanese Bistro!
Our atmosphere is stylish, hip and friendly. Warm colours, dark wood, almost 40 feet of hand-made illuminated Japanese rice paper and a bar area that features a live-edge maple wood bar, a wall inspired by Japanese architectural art, reclaimed fir and handmade copper wall scones await you. The lighting is intimate and the seating is flexible to accommodate large or small groups.
We are centrally located in the heart of downtown Vancouver and all along Granville Street you'll find shopping, theatres and nightclubs. If you are a sports enthusiast; General Motors Place (the Canucks and other live entertainment) and B.C. Place (the B.C. Lions) are within walking distance.
At ShuRaku, our kitchen concept is open. Counter seating is available both at the kitchen and the bar so pull up a seat and enjoy the show!
Izakaya may be casual but there is nothing casual about the artistry of our Master Chef, Masahiro Omori. Omori has that rare gift of making the casual seem effortless and sublime.
A vibrant menu designed for fun! You will find numerous traditional and non-traditional items; many of these are meant to be shared amongst friends and colleagues. There are also daily ?special? sheets where Omori features seasonal and unique finds as well as traditional dishes inspired by his culinary roots in the neighbourhoods of Tokyo.
The menu items provide many opportunities to pair food with a broad selection of sake. We feature an outstanding collection of super premium dai ginjo Japanese Sake, Shochu and Plum Wines as well as a selection of whiskey, Japanese beer, wine and creative cocktails.

Was flipping through a magazine and noticed Shu Raku being advertised... decided to check it out in person after an eventful day in Downtown.
If you're going here on a weekend, a reservation would help. I only came here with a party of two so it wasn't so bad, but still made a reservation JUST IN CASE! I have to say, its a great place for a party!
Food wise - fresh food, especially the sashimi ($20+). The other tapas were rather interesting - not the typical small plates from Guu. Shu Raku offers decent sized plates, but with a twist. By that I mean, the decor on the plates are NOT just decor. They could be a little basket thing with a lid, and it could be where the special spice or sauce is presented to their customers - neat eh? So, do play around with their dishes and you may find a surprise!
Would come back again, as there are sooooo many various dishes to try and also they have daily specials too.
Shu Raku offers some of the greatest Japanese tapas in town. Located just south of Pacific Center, it's walkable distance from some of the best downtown attractions in Vancouver - driving or walking.
The first thing I thought of walking through the door was: clean, modern and friendly. The ambiance was perfect for what I was prepared to feast on and with that expectation I was not disappointed.
The seafood was fresh, tasty and well presented in a bottom lit iced bowl. The service was very friendly and accommodating.
Watch out for their double shot cocktails, because they are a bit strong even for a regular "drink with meal" type person.
